Haiti’s history is rich and varied. Once called the Jewel of the Antilles, this sparkling island was filled with fertile soil, plentiful sea life, and warm, hospitable people. In the centuries since the birth of Haiti, many changes have taken place. From the changing of the people groups, to slavery, to poverty, to political revolt and unrest, the face of this country does not look the same as it did when Christopher Columbus set foot on it. But to God, it is filled with those who are lost and who need hope, restoration, love, and compassion.

This has been further illustrated in light of the events resulting from the earthquake in January 2010. With over 1 million people suddenly left homeless, the time is now for us to make a difference and build a nation of champions for Christ.

In 2002, we established Joy House Ministry Center located 15 miles outside of Port-au-Prince in the village of Gressier. After the earthquake, Joy House was still standing – although with significant damage. This once thriving ministry center which taught young men and women Christian values and leadership skills is now a small shell of what it used to be.

But God has not forgotten Haiti. Many people are coming to know Christ as a result of the devastation that occurred there. He is moving! You can help. Joy House will be used by the Southern Baptist Convention’s churches and ministry teams as a springboard to go out and meet needs in the community.
